ROUGH and windy weather over the weekend was too much for most anglers to fish in, but a few boats still managed to head offshore to chase the tuna and they were not disappointed.
I know of three boats that headed out in the less than ideal conditions and all managed to land barrels.
The fish ranged from 80kg to over 110kg and the bonze exocet lure in the paris colour was the stand out yet again.
Jason and Tyson from Port MacDonnell Fishing Charters had just one client onboard over the weekend and the lucky angler was Paul Glover who managed to land himself a lovely 106.9kg fish.
There has not been any other news from offshore this week thanks to the massive seas and windy days, but there looks to be some decent weather on the horizon.
There was a South East Amateur Surf Fishing Club competition held over the weekend, but with the very average weather and big seas, there was nothing weighed in by the keen anglers who still went down.
There were plenty of laughs around the fire on the beach, so that does not sound like a bad alternative.
Salmon fishos have still managed a few around the Cape Banks area, though they have been pretty hit and miss too.
Garfishos who have managed to find a little spot out of the wind continued to catch some nice fish this week.
The best areas have been Cape Douglas and Hutt Bay thanks to the shelter from the sand dunes.
The size is still up but the numbers have been a little bit patchy.
When things start to settle down a bit we should see the numbers improve again.
It is nearly squid time and we can tell that you guys are just chomping at the bit to get out there.
I am hearing almost daily conditions reports from the Livingstons area and even heard whispers of one fisho catching seven or eight squid already while he was out there targeting the gar.
The signs are pointing towards a good season if that is the case.
The Glenelg River has become a difficult place to fish.
The water has become quite dirty in recent weeks which in turn has shut the fish down.
There are still fish there to be caught – they are just hard work.
There has not been much news on the mulloway front, other than a handful of just-legal fish caught down in the estuary over the weekend.
The forecast for this coming weekend is not much to get excited about unfortunately, but the beauty of the river and some of our protected bays means we will always find somewhere to wet a line.
