IT was a big weekend of racing at McNamara Park, with the Classic Master of Mac Park series run.

There was also plenty of emotion, with the first South Australian Sidecar Championship for 20 years, renamed to reflect the input of the late Laurie Fox.

The Laurie Fox Memorial SA Sidecar Classic Championship feature race on Sunday saw the Limestone Coast pairing of Stephen and David Jones attempt to defend their 20-year-old title.

Unfortunately there was no fairytale end, as the father and son duo finished second behind Mark Knight and David Rumble after five laps and 14 starters.

A touch over 10 seconds separated the two at the chequered flag, with Adrian van Uitert and Mark Holloway rounding out the placings.

The Jones’s claimed the round win for the Period 5 sidecars, with two wins and a second place from the three heats.

Knight and Rumble claimed the only other victory – in leg one – finished second to the Jones’s in leg two, then failed to take the start in leg three.

Patrick Clancy and Stephen Bonney claimed the win in the F1 and F2 feature race, ahead of Terry Goldie/Jamie Crass and Todd Goldie/David Jones.

The other feature race on Sunday saw the 125cc machines go head-to-head in the Classic Master of Mac Park/Modern category.

Tati Goghill was too strong for the remainder of the field, as he claimed the win by more than 10 seconds from John Ryan and Ivor Johnston.

Richard Metcalf took the Period 4 honours on a Bultaco, from Garth Williams and Daniel Boeti.

Period 5 saw a field of 18 contest the Master of Mac Park, with Lachlan Hill setting the fastest lap on his 350cc Yamaha on his way to a comfortable win over Robert Ruwoldt and Nathaniel Wilson.

Darren Trotter claimed the Period 3 Master on a 650cc Manx Norton, from Russell Craddock on a Triel 750 and Scott Craddock on another Triel 750.

Period 6 saw Goghill use his 250cc Honda to good effect to win from Trotter on a 750cc Suzuki and Clint Graham on a 750cc Kawasaki.
