Cricket: South and Mil Lel battle in do-or-die clash

MIL LEL sits in the last transfer position into the Mount Gambier and District Cricket Association Barber Shield finals series, but a charging South Gambier has now put itself in the position to snatch the spot.

The winner of the final clash of the home and away season will claim fourth position on the ladder and clash with North Sportsman’s in the semi-final next weekend.

South posted an impressive 243 runs at Blue Lake Sports Park on day one, off the back of a half century to Jacob Parham and solid scores around the top and middle order.

The Demons dealt with the pressure at the crease and now it is Mil Lel’s turn.

It will all come down to whether Mil Lel can remain composed and hold onto its wickets.

South has a handy bowling line-up, which it proved when it ripped through North Sportsman’s in the Twenty20 Cup grand final recently.

It will hope to do the same today.

Dylan Clough, Robbie Drenthen and Camron Jorgenson are all more than capable of claiming their fair share of wickets.

However, Daniel Justin, Josh Jantosh and Justin Lamont have shown throughout the 2017-18 season they can lift at the crease and will aim to post decent scores tomorrow.

Jonathan Allcock is another Mil Lel player who has the ability to bring his side over the line.

It will take a big effort from South to defend a determined Mil Lel outfit, but a bigger one for Mil Lel to reach the daunting total.

However, the hosts are still riding with confidence after their Twenty20 Cup victory and will bring that into tomorrow’s game, which will see the momentum remain in the Demons’ camp.
