The tee opened an hour early due to the weather and all but the most foolhardy were off before 10 am.

Kenny’s 40 points saw him claim the B Grade winner’s cheque, with Russell Oehms taking second on 38 points.

Duncan Savage also posted 38 points and claimed the A Grade win, with Setio Shanahan taking second by count-back over Richard Gosling, with both finishing on 37.

In C Grade Michael Rookas took first place on 38 points, with Max Tollner second on 36.

In D Grade it was a small field due to the heat, but David Turnbull claimed the honours on 33 points ahead of Haydn Dow on 32.

Players needed 36 points to win a ball except for the lucky trio of Gary Button, Rob McIntyre and Joe Clements who fell in as the best of the 35-pointers.

Other winners included, Paul Reade, Tim Kenny, Peter Fox, Darren Harding, Chris Gabriel and Darren Coxon.

The field of only 60 still managed 13 birdies-twos, with winners including Nick Black, Graham Greenwood, Shayne Hosking, Jack Jennings, Kevin Lennon, Patrick O’Donnell, Clements, Dow, McIntyre, Oehms, Shanahan, Tollner and Turnbull.

The pro-shot on the 16th hole went to Mark Winterfield and shot-of-the-day went to Peter Waters on the eighth.

Women’s Stableford

ONLY five women headed out due to the heat, with Jade Delaney taking first place with 36 points.

Kerry Pedlar claimed second with 30 points, while Julie Robinson grabbed the shot-of-the-day on the eighth hole.

The women return to their season after a break over Christmas commencing this today with a stroke round as part of four rounds for the Summer Salver, sponsored by life member Isobel Phillips.

Thursday Stableford

A GLORIOUS day for golf saw a field of 80 on Thursday, with Keith Couzner posting the round-of-the-day with an excellent 43 points.

This gave him a two-point win over Winston Prowse and John Sandery on 41 points.

Prowse claimed second place by count-back and Sandery, the Driscoll Summer Cup.

David Turnbull was alone on 40 points, while Max Hellyer, Burt Van Nispen, Rob McIntyre, Nick Moretti and Des Taylor all tied on 38.

It took 36 points and a good back nine to win a ball, with some players missing out on count-back.

Those on the right side of the ledger included, Matt Bryant, Peter Waters, Bob Dalgarno, Doug Mullen, Peter Buckingham, John Hopkins, Tony Klug, Richard Gosling and Wayne Sampson.

Peter Lock claimed the pro-shot on the 16th hole, while Sandery continued his excellent day, claiming the shot-of-the-day on the eighth.

Unfortunately neither player was able to roll in their putts, with the only two birdie-twos for the day belonging to Tom Jellesma and David Turnbull.

Driscoll Summer Cup

IN only its second year, already the Summer Cup has a habit of producing great finishes.

Created and funded by the Driscoll family in memory of long time member and golf tragic, Ian Driscoll, it has been hotly contested by the Thursday golfers.

The eclectic nature of the event can lead to some large swings and John Sandery’s 41 points saw him jump nine positions.

Averaging better than 39 points for his best six rounds, 238, he finished three points clear of last round leader Graham Thomas on 235.

Bob Dalgarno and Greg Hudson tied on 234, with Lyndsay Copeman rounding out the top five on 232.
