THE “lord of the strings” Matthew Fagan will return to Mount Gambier with a captivating new show featuring Czech violinist Romana Geermans.

The Gypsy Fire duo live show will feature and blend a broad spectrum of genres from gypsy swing jazz to classical.

Mount Gambier’s Uniting Church will host the Gypsy Fire show on February 9 at 7.30pm.

Audiences can expect some eastern European gypsy and classical repertoire, including Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and O’Carolan’s Celtic harp and lute music arranged for guitar and violin.

Talented multi-instrumentalist Fagan has formed a profound musical partnership with the renowned Czech violinist to bring Gypsy Fire to life once more.

Fagan formed Gypsy Fire in 1997 and pioneered gypsy jazz in Australia with fiery performances at the Port Fairy Folk Festival, National Folk Festival, Wangaratta Jazz Festival and national touring at major arts centres.

Hailing from Prague, Geermans has twice won the prestigious Kocian International Violin Competition and at age 15 toured with the renowned Czechoslovak Chamber Orchestra for seven years.

She has toured extensively in Australia with orchestras, jazz, pop and country groups and features on Fagan’s CD Indigo Moon with the Atlantis Chamber Orchestra.

Internationally acclaimed performer Fagan is one of Australia’s most engaging, versatile, fluent and imaginative musicians.

He has toured with international celebrities including Natalie Cole, The Original Buena Vista Social Club, Billy Connolly, Shirley Bassey and Michael Crawford.
