MGGC: Christmas celebration in full swing

VICTORS: Val Grubb, Sue Downes, sponsor Janice Ruwoldt, Barb Watson and Anne Schrapel were pleased with the Christmas competition victory in the heat last week.

TO round out the golfing calendar for 2017, the Mount Gambier Golf Club women played a six-hole four-ball Ambrose competition, which allowed the players to avoid the extreme heat conditions last week.

To add to the fun of the day, all golfers wore Christmas attire and were visited on the course by a jovial Santa Claus.

The eventual winners for the day, with a score of 18.1, were Val Grubb, Sue Downes, Anne Schrapel and Barbara Watson, closely followed by the threesome of Vanessa Crute, Chris Sims and Donna Jennings with 18.7.

Third placing went to Faye Mainwaring, Glenise Johnston, Lyndal McInerney and Sharran Waters on 19.8.

All the winners took home a bottle of Jip Jip Rocks wine, kindly presented to them by sponsor Janice Ruwoldt.

The pro-shot nearest the pin was won by Heather Teakle for golfers and Lisa Douglas for non golfers.

The festivities then continued in style after presentations, with a shared lunch, several Christmas skits performed by club members and two fashion parades.

The women’s captain, Heather Barry and president Dian Norman, welcomed life members Isobel Phillips and Gloria Lennon and thanked all volunteers for the day’s success and also throughout the year.

It will be noted all future women’s golf competitions during December and January will be run by the golf professional Craig Davis, with bookings to be made on the club website until January31, when the first round of the Summer Cup starts.
