LSEBA: Mount Gambier Red proves dominant

SOLID GAME: Mount Gambier Red’s Peter Reppin was a contributor to his side’s big win over Millicent in the recent round of Lower South East Bowling Association’s Saturday Open Pennant competition.

Division 1

Mount Gambier Red 84/14 d Millicent 55/2

MOUNT Gambier Red has proved its dominance in the Lower South East Bowling Association’s Saturday Open Pennant competition with a big victory over Millicent at home.

The side enjoyed a solid win with two of the three rinks tasting victory, just in time for the Christmas and New Year break, which puts them in good stead come the second half of the season.

John Reppin, Bryan Vorwerk, Peter Reppin and Greg Carpenter were able to win their rink comfortably over Terry Barnes’ four 35-10, while Tim Radley, Terry Bruhn, Brad Errock and Tony Renzi also had a solid 36-13 against Iain Campbell’s side.

However, it was not all smooth sailing as Tony Bowditch’s side suffered their worst loss of the season, going down to Bryan Roper’s four 13-32.

The firs two rinks solid wins were enough to get Mount Gambier Red over the line.

Mount Gambier Blue 64/14 d Lucindale 61/4

IN a nail-biting clash against Lucindale, Mount Gambier Blue won its first game of the season by a minor three shots.

Steve Farrell, Judy Saint, David Babb and Kym Jones were impressive over the course of the day to defeat Neil Watts’ team 22-15.

Bill Bremner, Beryl Versluis, Jeff Collins and Jeff England also won their rink, beating Eric Pitt’s four 27-21.

However, Ian VonStanke’s side did not have the same luck and went down significantly to Rick Willmott four, 15-25.

Despite coming down to the wire, Mount Gambier Blue had enough on the scoreboard to claim its first victory.

Division 2

Port MacDonnell 93/14 d Mount Gambier 39/2

MOUNT Gambier was no match for Port MacDonnell, going down by a significant 54 shots by the end of play.

Despite the big loss Mount Gambier was still able to taste some success, winning one rink.

Eddie Otter, Jim Butchart, Bob Cranwell and Darryl Raneberg played their best to win 21-15.

However, both Perria Davis’ four and Peter Clark’s side struggled to match Port MacDonnell and as a result lost by big margins.

Division 3

Naracoorte 79/15 d Mount Gambier 55/1

A ROAD trip to Naracoorte was unsuccessful for Mount Gambier who struggled to match the home side.

Mount Gambier managed a draw on one rink, but failed to keep up on the other two and as a result went down by 24 shots.

Division 4

Beachport 75/14 d Mount Gambier 60/2

A CLOSE match was had seaside when Beachport and Mount Gambier battled.

The visitors were able to claim a win on one rink, but it was not enough to take the overall points.

Julius Turoczy, Neville Gilbertson, Greg McCallum and Jane Callega by just one shot 25-24.

However, the teams skippered by Athol Malseed and Malc Schwarz struggled to get over the line.

As a result Mount Gambier fell short by 15 shots.
