Bocce’s best – Capriotti given surprise honour

SURPRISE HONOURS: Frank Capriotti was awarded raffa bocce hall of fame honours from Grace Letizia and club president Gino Margiotta.

ITALO Australia Club bocce director Frank Capriotti has been honoured for his services to the sport with induction into the sport’s hall of fame.

The announcement was a surprise to Capriotti who said he never expected anything for his involvement int he sport he loves.

The honours came after Capriotti’s service to the game of raffa bocce, a European version of the game played around the globe, which he promoted in Australia and which ultimately led to the

formalisation of the sport with a documented structure and competition program.

“I never expected it,” Capriotti said of the award.

“I was really surprised when they did this.

“I am happy because I was recognised for doing the job, but I do it because I enjoy the game.

“This award means a lot to me.”

At 90 years of age, Capriotti has been playing bocce since he was young back in his native Italy.

He said he enjoys playing the sport for the social aspect.
