Regional court lists transferred to city

THE Mount Gambier Magistrates Court will host case lists originally placed at other Limestone Coast courthouses due the disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Defendants have been given the option of appearing via video-link, with the Blue Lake city courthouse able to cater for the changes due to its technological capabilities.

A Courts Administration Authority spokesperson said hearings listed in Millicent, Bordertown and Naracoorte would all be transferred to Mount Gambier.

Among the affected venues is Millicent Magistrates Court, which was set to convene on April 6 and is unable to meet the social distancing protocols relating to
COVID-19.

The magistrate and staff along with the defendants, prosecutors, defence counsel and members of the public gallery are all in close proximity.

In a statement, Chief Justice Chris Kourakis said the Courts Administration Authority was monitoring the COVID-19 situation and preparing for any potential impacts on services.

Mr Kourakis said the magistrates court hearings would continue as usual.
The authority will review the matter at the end of April.
