Casterton sporting facility upgrades complete

NATIONAL and state level sporting competitions are on the agenda for Casterton’s Island Park following a $1.46m redevelopment at the popular sporting precinct.

Glenelg Shire Mayor Anita Rank last week officially opened the $800,000 worth of refurbishments to the town’s memorial Olympic swimming pool in addition to a $60,000 redevelopment of the precinct’s tennis and netball clubrooms.

“These major works will assist the township to continue to attract state level swimming competitions and ensure the precinct is a hub for locals to exercise and cool off this summer season,” she said.

“The neighbouring rejuvenated tennis and netball clubrooms have taken this precinct to the 21st century with a purpose-built space which will assist to attract more competitors to the precinct and importantly more finals in the Western Border Football Netball League.

“Attracting more events and higher usage is good news for the town and the regional economy.”

The pool works include a new all-abilities access ramp, new modern return system and concrete concourse on the pool surrounds.

Meanwhile, the new tennis and netball clubrooms have been future proofed to cope with flooding events following the devastating damage of the September 2016 floods.

The spacious facility has been purpose-built, allowing the Casterton Sandford Football Netball Club’s more than 200 players a private, safe and secure area which includes two showers, two toilets and plentiful space for officials.

The Casterton pool is open daily from 10.30am to 6.30pm, excluding Christmas Day.
