Athletes hit street for annual fun run

HUNDREDS of people will put their fitness to the test this Sunday at the annual 2017 OneFortyOne Blue Lake Fun Run in an effort to raise funds for a range of local community health and wellbeing organisations.

The growing event is set to match if not exceed last year’s participant numbers with entries currently sitting at 900.

“It is a fantastic event which promotes living a great lifestyle, with funds raised staying in local community organisations,” Blue

Lake Fun Run Committee sponsorship coordinator Rosangela Crispino said.

There will be many new features to this year’s OneFortyOne Blue Lake Fun Run, including participant medallions.

School cash prizes will also be up for grabs, with participating schools provided with the opportunity to purchase sporting equipment or funding for other health and wellbeing activities within their school.

Lakes Rotary Club of Mount Gambier welcomed the new three year naming rights sponsorship with OneFortyOne Plantations for the Blue Lake Fun Run.

Lakes Rotary Club president Karen Leslie said community support was strong and since organising the event in 2012 they had donated more than $100,000 back to the local community.

“The profits of the fun run assist with vital health and well being initiatives,” Ms Leslie said.

OneFortyOne Plantations general manager Willie Van Niekerk said the company was proud to align with such a key community event.

“As our team lives and works here, we feel it is important that our community initiatives help define a vibrant and thriving community, focused on the health and wellbeing of its people,” Mr Van Niekerk said.
