THE unique body shape of this 1960 FB Holden is what caught owner Adrian Mariager’s attention given its similarities to an American Chevrolet.

Mr Mariager said the vehicle’s body shape was a style rarely seen on vehicles.

“There are not many cars that have been manufactured in this body shape,” he said.

“I think it reminds me of an American Chevrolet.”

Mr Mariager said he found the vehicle while scrolling through online car advertisements.

“I retired from lawn mowing about 18 months ago because I have a bad back,” he said.

“I had nothing to do and I have always been a lover of old Holdens.

“I have had a few other models and my wife said I better get a hobby so I thought I would find another old Holden.”

After a crash course from his wife on how to use Gumtree, Mr Mariger eventually found what he was looking for.

“I just looked and looked and looked,” he said.

“There were around ten for sale online in Australia varying from $5000 in price to $50,000.

“Mine was $20,000 so somewhere in the middle.”

Mr Mariager has had the body resprayed and modified the exhaust system and wheels, but is still looking for suitable hub caps.

“It had three different shades of yellow when I brought it,” he said.

“It is featuring in my daughter’s wedding this year and she wanted it all the one colour for photos.

“I have had it resprayed by Dave Reilly last week so it is now the one colour.”

According to the previous owner, Mr Mariager said the vehicle has only traveled 59,000 genuine miles in its lifetime.

“I use it two or three times a week,” he said.

“I like the shape the most about it with the big fins at the back.

“It does not seem to matter who I talk to everyone has a story about their grandpa or their father or their mother having one of these models.”

Mr Mariager said he remembers driving an FB Holden when he was a teenager.

“I drove them when I was 18 years old, borrowing them from mates,” he said.

“They painted them all the sort of hot rod colours back then.

“This car is special to me because of the memories and I have always loved the FB Holdens.”
