THE unusual sight of a crane towering above Mount Gambier’s Old Town Hall in the heart of the city yesterday sparked the interest of passers-by, but was little more than routine maintenance work.
City Council had approved for the Williams Crane Hire machine to occupy a section of the Cave Gardens as workers completed upgrades to air-conditioning units for the historic building, currently occupied by the James Morrison Academy of Music.
The giant crane was used to bring down old equipment and haul five new replacement units to the roof space safely.
Council building and maintenance team leader Daryl Ferguson said the project was part of council’s upgrade schedule for old air conditioning units.
“The crane was only required yesterday and it is expected to take another three to four weeks to commission the new air conditioning units,” he said.
