Creative celebration

COLOURFUL DISPLAY: Textile artist Suzanne Gummow with her artwork “Yellow” which is part of the Collage to Stitch exhibition on display at the Millicent Gallery.

MILLICENT has been filled with colourful and creative displays as talented artists showcase their work in the town.

Around 40 people attended the Collage to Stitch Exhibition at the local gallery as part of the “festival of arts” recently.

The four South Australian textile artists involved in the exhibition – Maxine Fry, Ruth Galpin, Suzanne Gummow and Sandra Obst – also attended.

Ms Fry spoke at the event, giving an insight into the chosen themes of the exhibition, which reflected personal passions and generally revolved around nature.

Flowers, trees and gardens were frequent topics for reflection by the artists.

Janice Nitschke praised the women’s work and talent.

“We had people come through the gallery while we were putting artworks up and received great comments,” Janice Nitschke said.

“The women’s talent will inspire all of our artists.

“Artists need our support because without them we would not have a gallery.”

Ms Nitchke further emphasised the importance of the community embracing the arts.

The exhibition will run until April 25.
