Longest Table charity fundraiser a success

MILLICENT’S own version of The Longest Table charity dinner has been hailed a success.

In all, $8353 was raised via ticket sales, a silent auction and raffles.

All 120 tickets were snapped up for the recent event at the club rooms of the Millicent Football Netball Club at McLaughlin Park.

The black-and-white dress code was strictly followed by guests.

The dinner was the brainchild of Millicent resident Carole Wenzel who well and truly exceeded her initial aim of raising $2000 to fight cancer.

For just $25, dinner-goers were treated to a three-course meal and entertainment from husband and wife performing duo Julianne and Dave Thomas.

Company of Seven trouper Chris Hollingsworth was joined by fellow Millicent theatre company life members Jan Armit and Irene Stratford to present an affectionate tribute to such international performers as Cher, Abba, Cilla Black, Patsy Cline and Dolly Parton.

Ms Wenzel said some dinner-goers had to withdraw due to illness, but their places were taken by those on the waiting list.

The Longest Table is the Hospital Research Foundation’s annual cancer fundraiser across South Australia.
