Golf: McIntyre holds nerve in windy conditions

TESTING CONDITIONS: Windy conditions made play tough last week at the Attamurra Golf Course, with Helen McIntyre claiming the honours ahead of Jane Lamont, with Kerry Pedlar featuring in the ball rundown.

COOL and blustery conditions greeted the 27 women who contested a stroke round and the third round of the Summer Salver at the Attamurra Golf Course last week.

The high winds made play unpredictable and putting was difficult on the slow greens.

Helen McIntyre made the most of the conditions to claim the honours on the day with a steady round of 97-23-74.

McIntyre had to survive a count-back from Jane Lamont who managed 109-35-74.

Rounding out the placings with 100-25-75 was Kate McCormick, who has played consistently over the Summer Salver rounds.

Featuring in the ball run-down this week were Kerry Pedlar, Bev Pedlar, Deb Paschke, Libby Altschwager and Jennette Braun.

Other players who won the second shot on the fourth hole were A Grade’s Karen Forster, B Grade’s Sue Downes and C Grade’s Mary Kentish.

A close shot on the eighth green rewarded Marilyn Spencer with three balls for the pro-shot prize.

A par round today is the final round of the Summer Salver, with the winner being determined by having the best three of four rounds.

The trophy is donated by life member Isobel Phillips and will be presented on the women’s opening day on Wednesday, March 7.
