Golf: Richards poised for Summer trophy

GOOD DAY FOR GOLF: Top performers at the Blue Lake Golf Club last week were Division 1 runner-up Sue Agars, Division 1 winner Josie Ashby, Division 2 winner Lucy Richards and Division 2 runner-up Lyn Gill.

WITH only the extremely windy conditions to contend with this week, a larger field were keen to hit off in the third round of the 2018 Summer Trophy played in par format at the Blue Lake Golf Links last week.

The purple patch that Division 2 player Lucy Richards has been continued, when she was able to present another good score to secure three points towards the Summer Trophy, leaving no-one in doubt as to the eventual winner with only one more round to complete.

A few different names have been added to the leader-board and will be fighting for second and third positions when the final round is held in a couple of weeks.

In Division 2 Josie Ashby was the outright winner, also with a great score of +2, with a five shot buffer from runner-up Captain Sue Agars on -3.

Ashby was the nearest-the-pin winner.

Richards was the Division 2 winner and was three shots ahead of her nearest opponent Lyn Gill who was square to the card.

Fay Price won the nearest-the-pin prize for her division.

The pro-shot on the par three fifth hole was won by Cherryl Hill.

Today’s competition sees the start of the Monthly Medals in stroke format and count putts inclusive, along with the first qualifying round of the 2018 Handicap Championships as well as the first of four rounds of the Captain’s Trophy.
