SOUNDS of local musical talent and scents of delicious cultural dishes wafted through the city last Friday night.

For three hours residents were entertained in the heart of the city as budding musicians and chefs hosted a unique festival.

Grant High School Home economics teacher Josh Praolini said the event was a huge success and the school had received an overwhelmingly positive response from those who attended.

“It went amazingly well and I am proud of all the students who were involved on Friday night,” Mr Praolini said.

“From a food perspective, more than half our stalls sold out, while others were pretty close and all the musicians were well-received.”

Forming part of their assessment, the pressure was on students to bring their A-game and Mr Praolini said they did not disappoint.

“It is a big part of their course and putting them in a setting like that provides them with real-life learning,” he said.

The range of musicians were a major hit on the night, with girl-band Colourful Irony asked to travel to Adelaide to perform.

“It is pretty exciting for one group of girls who have been invited to Adelaide to perform as part of an all-girls event,” Mr Praolini said.

The Tasty Tunes idea, which started out as a school lunchtime event, has developed over the years and Grant High School leaders hope to make it bigger and better next year.

“It originally started as a small idea at school, then food and hospitality teacher Pariya Ziakas took it to another level, which has seen it go to the Old Gaol and now The Rail,” Mr Praolini said.

“The city council came to the party, which we were really grateful for and it allowed us to put on a great event.”

Mr Praolini said having the event outside school time allowed parents to atternd and gain an appreciation for their children’s talents.

“Music and food goes hand in hand, so it is great to bring this event to the community and also give the children’s parents an insight into what they are learning at school.

“The parents were blown away with what they were able to produce.”
