Riders focus on worthy cause

TWO big days of racing graced the McNamara Park course on the weekend, with motorcycles of all types in attendance.

The weekend’s focus was the Cancer Council Cup races, with a Heavyweight cup, Combined Sidecars and Lightweight, all with the focus on the Cancer Council.

Throughout the Sunday other cup finals were run, with big fields and big numbers of competitors.

In the Heavyweight Cancer Council Cup, Andrew Tenison-Woods claimed the honours, from Rusty Crane and Graeme Koschmann.

Tenison-Woods set a fastest lap of 1:22.774 on the second lap and greeted the chequered flag some three-and-a-half seconds from Crane.

Michael Alton and David Rumble claimed the Combined Sidecar Cancer Council Cup, with a strong performance to finish almost 10 seconds clear of Jaysen Hammond and Steve Morgan.

Alan Smith and David Whitfield rounded out the podium.

The Lightweight Cancer Council Cup saw Brett Metcalf claim the win after a tough battle with David Trotter.

Trotter crossed the line well clear of third-placed Paul Valoudis.

THE 75+ CUP: Glen Marchiori, Honda; Andrew Tenison-Woods, Honda; Andrew Payne, Suzuki.

THE 45+ LIGHTWEIGHT CUP: Mat Childs, Yamaha; Brett Metcalf, Yamaha; Paul Valoudis, Yamaha.

THE 100+ CUP: Mark Boag, Moto Guzzi; Wayne Wilksch, Honda; Dan Gleeson, Norton.

THE 100+ LIGHTWEIGHT CUP: Graham O’Neill, Honda; Robin Williams, Honda; Adam Donovan, Norton.

COMBINED SIDECAR CUP: Michael Alton/David Rumble, Suzuki; Jaysen Hammond/Steve Morgan, Suzuki; Alan Smith/ David Whitfield, Suzuki.
