MILLICENT v CASTERTON SANDFORD

HOT off a thrilling one-point win over North Gambier, Millicent will chase a more comfortable win when it hosts Casterton Sandford this weekend.

The Round 1 meeting between the two Limestone Coast football sides produced a 73-point win for the Saints, but was not entirely reflective of the game.

Casterton Sandford is definitely an improved side since the season opener and while still only having the one win, pushed South Gambier to the line last round.

If it was not for some wayward kicking the Cats could have made an impressive comeback on their home deck.

South accounted for Millicent by just a solitary points a couple of rounds ago, which suggests there could still be some intrigue around this week’s contest at McLaughlin Park.

Callum Currie looms large in the Cats’ midfield and his return to the club has seen him regularly in their best players.

He put in another best-on-ground performance last week with four goals to complement his efforts.

The likes of Diarmid Cleary and Ed Pritchard are also in strong form among others and the Cats will make the road trip knowing their best is certainly competitive in the league.

Millicent sits in top spot at this point in the season, but only percentage separates the Saints from South and West Gambier.

The Cats are down in fifth but has shown plenty of promise even in defeat.

Frazer Bradley has been dangerous in the Saints’ forward line and he will need to be kept under wraps or another bag of goals could be on the cards.

Jacob Carger, Sam Willis, Josh Werchon and Jaden Grosser have also had their share of goal-kicking action in recent weeks and if there is one thing Millicent does not lack, it is X Factor.

Down the other end Zac McGuinness comes off a best-on-ground game in defence, while Billy Shanks has been explosive for the Saints in his return to the club.

Millicent should come away with the points by a comfortable margin, but the Cats should not be ruled out entirely.
