IT was a busy day for 38 women golfers last Wednesday at the Mount Gambier Golf Club, competing in a stroke round for the monthly medal, plus the second round of the Handicap Championships, the second round of the International Bowl and a putting competition.

It was almost wintry conditions with rain and the course was heavy going, plus the T-Blocks were set back, which enabled only one golfer to play to her handicap.

For the third time, winning the prestigious monthly medal was Helen Heaver (98-26-72 Nett) who had the best score of the day.

Her split for the two nines were consistent 48/50 strokes.

Runner-up in Division 2 was Gail Stephenson (111-33-78 Nett), who has persisted in her golf after injury over many months to win a $15 club voucher.

In Division 1 Di O’Donnell (97-23-74 Nett) claimed the win.

She had an impressive back nine of 46 off the stick and registered just 12 putts.

Her score could have been much better but for a disastrous nine on the first hole.

Carol Davis (92-17-75 Nett) took out second place in Division 1, playing steady golf, her split being 45/47 strokes and pars on the seventh and 11th par 5 holes.

Nine balls were handed out in the ball run-down and went from Jess Parsons nett 76 down to Heather Barry nett 81.

The putting competition went to Helen Gregory with just 28 putts for the day.

The speciality prizes went to Linda Boylan for the pro shot on the Par 3 eighth hole.

The second shot on the par 3 16th hole went to A Grade’s Heather Barry, B Grade’s Di ‘Donnell and C Grade’s Gail Stephenson.

This week’s competition will be a pairs game in the form of the Shylie Rymill Foursomes, incorporating the Club Foursomes Championship.
