MILD summer weather and a well-presented course greeted the 28 women at the Blue Lake Golf Club for the first of four rounds of the Ary Bar and Bistro sponsored Summer Cup.

The Summer Cup comprises two stroke rounds, a stableford and par round, accumulating points for first, second and third places.

At the end of the four rounds the best three scores are taken into account.

The score of the day, an awesome nett 64 was recorded by Division 2’s Jaynee Oberer and she should expect a handicap reduction before her next outing.

With the scratch rating of 72, there were a few able to play under or close to their handicap and the best score in Division 1 came from Ronda Edwards.

Playing off a 15 handicap, her 84 off the stick included four pars on the outward nine and three on the inward nine, for splits of 41/43, two strokes under and even par respectively.

Kate Hommelhoff also enjoyed a good outing for second place and signed for 100/29/71, with splits of 53/47.

Her score consisted of pars on the fourth, ninth and 12th holes to finish even par.

Third on the podium was Geraldine Scott (96/24/72) with a par on the fifth hole and even scoring of 48/48 to finish one-under par.

Oberer’s win in Division 2 came after signing for 97/33/64, which included pars on the second and 15th holes.

Her long-hitting game came into play with her straight drives and fairway hits and splits of 46/51 was good enough for a runaway win.

She her nearest opponent by six strokes to finish seven strokes under her handicap.

Runner-up Lynda Nannings was pleased with her scorecard (102/32/70), also coming in under par with splits 53/49, including a par on the fifth hole.

Trudy Herbert (101/39/71) claimed third place after a count-back from Dianne Allen (113/42/71). Herbert had splits of 54/47 and included a par on the dog-leg 15th hole.

Nearest the pin second shot on the 16th hole was won by Carol Melhuish, the pro-shot by Helen Myers and the long drives to Rosemary Martland in Division 1 and Nannings in Division 2.

Myers had a birdie on the fifth hole, while chip-in ferrets went to Bev Pascoe on the second hole, Helen Stratford (11th), Myers (15th) and Herbert (17th).

Saturday’s stroke round attracted 15 women and after a few years hiatus from golf due to work commitments, Janine Dunn made a comeback a couple of weeks ago and put herself in the winner’s circle to take the top spot.

Dunn (38 handicap) used all her handicap strokes perfectly to sign for 105/67.

There were two pars, on the ninth and 15th holes, both doglegs, in her splits of 52/58.

Helen Stratford (91/20/71) took second place playing to her handicap after consistent golf helped by birdies on the second and 15th holes, plus pars on the fifth and 17th for splits of 46/45.

Jorja Morale (96/22/74) claimed third place, with her splits of 46/50 including pars on the second, fifth and 17th holes.
