WEST GAMBIER 10/156 AND 4/167 D MIL LEL 10/104

IN what panned out as a strange game, West Gambier claimed a comfortable victory over Mil Lel in Round 9 of Barber Shield cricket on Saturday.

On the opening day Mil Lel looked to have some control over the contest, bowling West out for s56 in just 44.5 overs.

It looked a good opportunity for Mil Lel, but someone forgot to tell the Roos.

By stumps on day one Mil Lel had slumped to 7/39 and in a world of hurt.

Darcy Williamson and Harry Hicks ensured the century was reached, but not much more, withg Mil Lel all out for just 104 runs in the 51st over.

Williamson contributed 31 runs and Hicks 20.

The wickets were shared around by the West bowlers, with Bray Stephenson, Justin deJong, Sujith Nikethana and Shand deJong all with two scalps each.

The Roos then headed back into the middle and apart from a duck to Justin deJong at the top of the order, the remaining batsmen were not short on runs.

Nuwan Gunawardana managed 29 off just 33 balls, while Jayden Prior contributed 32 off a steady 64 deliveries.

Jake Blackwell was out for 36 off 60 balls, while Stephenson chalked up 47 off 207 deliveries.

Stephenson ran out of overs to reach his half-century, unbeaten at the end of play, along with Sam Willis, who hit a quick-fire six off five balls.
