Final shoot for the year

THE Mount Gambier Gun Club held its December monthly competition on Saturday.

Met by overcast conditions with some gusty winds thrown in, the dedicated shooters obtained some high scores regardless of the weather.

As a result there were shoot off’ required to determine some winners.

The opening event was the the 25-target Christmas Double Barrel Championship.

With hams on offer for the winners, this event was keenly shot.

After a quick shoot off Tom Jenkins claimed the AA Grade win with 27/27 from Gavin Height on 26/27 and Darren Beyer with 31/32.

Greg Kessegian also shot 31/32 to edge out Scott Hetherington (30/32) to win A Grade, while Brian Smith shot 24/26 to round out the podium.

In B Grade it was Dale Robertson who topped the field with 24/25 to account for Tristan McKinnon with 30/32 and Mick Little on 29/32.

A score of 24/25 handed Garry Allison the C Grade win from Shannon Megaw (25/28) and John McIntyre (24/28).

Up next was a 20-target Side by Side Shotgun Championship.

Fine skills were demonstrated throughout the event with the AA Grade honours going to Height with 24/26.

Runner-up was Warren Lindner with 23/26, followed by Tom Jenkins with 20/23.

Ken Atkin showed off his skills to shoot 21/22 and claim the overall win, along with A Grade.

He edged out A Grade runner-up Smith on 18/20, with Kessegian in third.

McKinnon turned the tables in B Grade to secure the win for this round with 19/20, relegating Robertson to second place on 17/20.

Nick Rishworth rounded out the podium with 16/20.

The C Grade win went to Reece Fleming thanks to his score of 20/22, followed by Robert Marcato on 19/22 and Allison on 24/27.

The 20-Pair Deauville Doubles was third on the agenda, with more shoot offs required after some tight competition.

Scott Fleming and Mick Little won the event with 22/24, with Max Medhurst and Megaw settling for second on 26/29, followed by Don Pratt and Doug Rohde (25/29).

The final event was the popular Annie Oakley Shoot Out.

It was skilfully shot with Medhurst taking out the honours.

The high gun award for the day was won by Height for his impressive total of 43/45.

Following the day’s competition, some overall winners were announced for the year.

The yearly high gun was successfully won by Warren Lindner for his total of 1306/1500, while Height took out the club aggregate competition with a top score of 223/250.

The next competition will be the two-day super shoot event held on the January 13 and 14.
