WITH the weather doing its unpredictable thing, it was a case of wet-weather clothing when teeing off in the fifth and final round of the Grant and Dianne Perryman Short Course Trophy at the Blue Lake Golf Club last week.

Fortunately the rain dissipated within 10 minutes and blue skies appeared.

The format was stroke, while other rounds have included stableford and with handicaps adjusted by golflink, the challenge to adapt is still there.

The handicap range for division one was 0-19 and it was Helen Myers returning from holidays refreshed to take the top prize of a club voucher, signing for 77/12/65.

That included pars on the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh holes in the 36 strokes on the outward nine, along with par’s on the 10th and 13th to finish with a birdie on the 18th on the inward score of 38.

Runner-up was Trudy Herbert 86/19/67, winning her a Mount Gambier Oatmill cinema movie voucher.

Her card had splits of 44/42, with pars on the third, fifth and sixth holes.

The minor placing went to Karen Panagopoulos 83/15/68 with splits of 43/40 after a good spread of pars on the eighth, ninth 10th, 12th and 18th holes.

The handicap range for division two was 20-45 and the winner was Bernadette Pedlar after making good use of her 25 handicap, signing for 89/64 and included pars on the third, fifth 14th and 18th holes.

Vivienne Wilson, also back from holidays, was able to win an Oatmill Cinema movie voucher for runner-up after scoring 93/24/69 from consistent golf.

Johanna Gogan found herself in the winner’s circle once again, also making use of her 32 handicap scoring 83/71 with splits of 48/45 and pars on the second and 18th holes.

Nearest the pin second-shot winner’s on the 16th hole were Division 1’s Ronda Edwards and Division 2’s Bev Pascoe.

Pro-shot winner on the fifth hole was Rosemary Martland.

Beryl Mahoney and Helen Myers won chocolate bar vouchers for birdies from chip-in ferrets on the second and 18th holes respectively.

Josie Ashby (second hole), Herbert (15th) and Lynda Nannings (17th) had ferrets and birdies for Edwards and Ashby on the 13th also won them chocolate vouchers.

This week is the August monthly medal, the third round of the Mount Gambier Scotty’s Loader Services president’s trophy and count putts.

On Saturday, in early Spring weather the third round of the Carlin & Gazzard Car Spa Winter trophy was played in stroke format and with the course set to it’s maximum length, plus tricky pin placements, the scores were indicative of the challenge to most.

Rosemary Martland was only one of two to score under 100.

Martland had 95 off the stick from an 18 handicap.

Her 77 nett from splits of 47/48 included pars on the fifth and 17th holes, mixed with a few too many bogeys and double-bogeys, but good enough for the win.

Second-placed Geraldine Scott and third-placed Dianne Perryman also suffered from too many bogeys and double-bogeys, which indicated the challenge of the course was certainly a factor.

Scott had splits of 52/53 and pars on the first and fifth holes off her handicap of 27.

Perryman 101/22/79 had splits of 54/47 and a par on the 11th hole for third place after a count-back from Ronda Edwards 95/16/79.

It must be mentioned Panagopoulos had her first eagle.

After her tee shot on the dog-leg par four 15th hole she ran a seven iron.

Best nett score went to Martland and the least putts to Edwards.
