RETURNING to normal competition after a week off following the recent Indoor Archery Championships, the Blue Lake Archers hit the weather jackpot Sunday for outdoor archery to complement their indoor rounds from Friday night.

Indoor archery produced some tight results, with a tie-break required for the win in the first of two rounds of Australian 18 metre.

Alex McDonnell and Paul Freeman completed the initial round tied on adjusted scores of 296 points apiece, resolved by a count of 10 point arrows each archer achieved.

In this case Freeman had the superior tally to take the win.

A visiting recurve archer from the Blyth area in the mid north of South Australia, Trevor Kriesl of The United Archers, had joined in for the weekend.

Kriesl is a regular outdoor archer and competed in both indoor and outdoor rounds over the weekend, which allowed him to add two indoor rounds to his only previous indoor round competition result.

Round 2 of the indoor was almost as tight in the results as round one.

Tamika Mullan took the top spot on the list a single point clear of Jeff Puckridge who filled the runner-up position.

A bout of fine and calm weather on Sunday had the adjusted scores pushed out beyond the benchmark of 900 points for the pair of 90-arrow rounds on offer.

A Geelong round at 30 metres and a Short Canberra over 50, 40 and 30 metres were the two choices the archers could nominate into.

Seth Delaney competed in the Geelong round and set a cracking pace for the other archers to chase, but was never overtaken, claiming an impressive win.

McDonnell was competing in the Short Canberra and was the best of the pursuers, snaring the runner-up position from Matt Delaney, who rounded out the podium.

The trio at the top of the list all finished with adjusted results above 900 points.

Indoor archery continues at the Blue Lake Gymnastics Club, Malseed Park, Friday at 7pm, followed by outdoor archery at Corriedale Park from 12.30pm on Sunday.
