WITH the temperature at below zero, walking to the tee block at the Blue Lake Golf Club last Wednesday the sun quickly made an appearance for those women keen enough to head out.

The third round of the Marlene Lingham Memorial stableford trophy sponsored by the Blue Lake Bar and Bistro is a popular event and the scores recorded were on the low side, indicative of the heavy course conditions after the heavy rainfall received recently.

Karen Panagopoulos registered the top score of the day and also won the Division 1 bistro voucher after signing for 31 points off a 26 handicap.

A par on the second hole, scrub on the third and two three-pointers resulted in 16 points on the outward nine and Panagopoulos turned to the inward nine to record 15 points that included two three-pointers and no scrubs.

A four-way tie for the minor placings resulted in a count-back between Josie Ashby, Rosemary Martland, Dianne Perryman and Helen Stratford who all posted 27 points.

Ashby claimed second place and Martland third.

Playing off a 23 handicap, Ashby had splits of 10/17 and Martland off 18 had splits of 11/16.

Panagopoulos was the second shot nearest to the pin winner on the par 3 second hole.

Stratford won the birdie prize and a ferret prize for a chip-in on the par 3 fifth hole and also the best front nine score prize.

Winner of Division 2 was Johanna Gogan off a 33 handicap, signing for 27 points.

Gogan had a slow start on the outward nine, only able to accrue nine points, but she dug deep to post 18 points on the inward nine that included four three-pointers and no scrubs to finish strongly.

New member Bernadette Pedlar would gave been pleased on her first Wednesday 18-hole outing with her 26 points.

She started with three-pointers on the first and second holes, a four-pointer on the eighth, but unfortunately a scrub on the dog-leg ninth to turn with 16 points.

The inward nine was a bit more of a challenge with just 10 points.

The nearest the pin second-shot winner was Gogan.

Golfers are advised there is no Wednesday competition this week due to the SA Golf Bronze plate event.

The Golf SA tournament will be held this week at the Blue Lake Golf Club.

A total of 54 entries have been received from 16 South Australian golf clubs.

The Bronze Plate handicap range is from 28.1 to 54.

Stableford events run today (Tuesday) and Wednesday, with results and a presentation dinner Wednesday, night followed by an ambrose event Thursday.
