THE Blue Lake Golf Club women were lucky with the mild weather again last Wednesday for the second round of the Marlene Lingham Memorial stableford trophy proudly sponsored by the Blue Lake Bar and Bistro.

The scores for the majority were indicative of the heavy underfoot conditions, regardless of the sun making an appearance, with only one able to play to their handicap.

Women’s secretary Sue Agars had the score of the day, posting an impressive 37 points, well ahead of her closest opponent.

Playing off a 20 handicap, Agars had a clean card, scoring on every hole and included pars on the third, 11th, 14rh and 17th.

Her consistent nines of 19/18 saw her reap the reward, winning the top voucher as well as a ball voucher for the best back nine score.

A count-back was required between Karen Panagopoulos and Rosemary Martland after finishing in a tie, both signing for 30 points.

Panagopoulos claimed second place with the better back- nine score.

Playing off a 26 handicap, Panagopoulos had splits of 16/14, with pars on the second and ninth holes, along with three three-pointers and three wipes.

Martland, playing off 17, had a mixed bag of one pointer’s, regulation points and wipes in her 18/12 splits and only one par on the fifth hole.

Division 2 winner, vice president Lee Anderson, claimed the honours with 27 points.

Playing off 44, Anderson had a bit of everything, with splits of 15/12 and included four three-pointers.

Trudy Herbert (30) managed 25 points from splits of 12/13, including three-pointers on the fourth and 10th holes, good enough for second place, followed by Jaynee Oberer with 21 points.

Nearest the pin second shot on the par 3 16th hole was Josie Ashby in Division 1 and Trudy Herbert in Division 2.

The pro-shot winner was Ronda Edwards and Lyn Annand won a chocolate bar for a chip-in ferret on the the first hole.

On Saturday, early morning golfers had to contend with damp conditions, with their afternoon counterparts enjoying the sunshine on offer later.

The stroke competition did see scores blow out a little from the scratch rating of 72, with the top three winners signing for nett 77 a piece, creating a three-way tie and going to a count-back.

The eventual winner was Edwards 93/16/77 with splits of 47/46 that included pars on the fifth, 12th and 14th holes.

Panagopoulos claimed second place with 103/26/77 from splits of 53/50, with pars on the 15th and 16th holes.
