KONGORONG V HATHERLEIGH

Round 12 of Mid South East football should provide some interesting contests, although Kongorong will have its work cut out when it hosts Hatherleigh.

It has not been the best year for the Hawks, with just one win chalked up after 10 outings, sitting in eighth position on the ladder.

That win came against Glencoe back in Round 4 and it has been a hard road since.

It has been a different scenario for Hatherleigh, as the Eagles looked a bit out of sorts early as they struggled to come to turns with the loss of several players in the off-season after a failed premiership challenge.

However, through it all the Eagles have lost just three games and appear to be back on track.

The Hawks had a chance to inflict some pain back in Round 3 when the two sides first faced off, with Hatherleigh coming off a big loss to Glencoe in Round 2 in what was its first hitout of the season.

However, the Eagles were simply too strong, with a solid start and a big third term to ensure they were back in the winner’s circle.

In that game Patrick Chay and Sam Telfer were in good form in front of goals, with six and five majors each respectively.

Jarrod Ryan was best in front of the big sticks for the Hawks with five goals.

Since then Hatherleigh has lost to Robe, then to Kalangadoo in a tight contest, but have looked far more settled.

Unfortunately for Kongorong, the list does not read so well.

Losses against Nangwarry and Tantanoola hurt, but the last two rounds have shown the Hawks to be lacking against the top sides, with big defeats at the hands of Kalangadoo and Port MacDonnell.

It is fair to say Hatherleigh will win this one without too many dramas and look to consolidate its top-four position.
