Mount Burr 38 d Nangwarry 20

MOUNT Burr had key goal shooter Ebony Clark and co-coach Simone Westerman unavailable for the Mid South East netball Round 10 clash against Nangwarry, but could still get the job done. Youngster Ashlee Dean came into the side for her second game of the season.

It was a closely-contested first quarter, with both teams taking time to settle in goals.

The defensive pressure of Mount Burr’s Megan Thiele caused passing errors.

Thiele was also able to take strong rebounds and drove strongly down court.

Ella Easterby and Laura Schultz presented well and fed their goalies with accuracy in windy conditions.

Both teams had missed shots which meant it was a defensive quarter.

Nangwarry goal keeper Kayla Gray took rebounds and made Mount Burr goal shooter Olivia Dean work hard to gain possession.

Mount Burr led the quarter 11-6.

Gray made the most of her height in the second term, again taking rebounds from the Burr’s missed shots.

Mount Burr’s Schultz and Easterby created immense pressure in Nangwarry’s attack line after a turnover, regaining possession before Nangwarry managed to reach their attacking goal third.

They combined well to make circle edge and fed goalies with accuracy.

Nangwarry goal shooter Tahlia Wilson was the focal point in the goal circle, working hard to make position around the tight defensive pressure of Thiele and Caitlyn Payne.

Olivia Dean and Lauren Wheeler continued to rotate the Burr goal circle gaining possession.

They struggled in the conditions to make the possessions count, even when taking strong rebounds.

The quarter saw both teams take defensive possessions to keep the quarter even.

Mount Burr headed into the main break with an eight-goal lead.

Both teams made changes, but the most notable was the return of Olivia Dean to goal keeper and Ashlee Dean to goal shooter, which had an immediate impact for the Burr.

Schultz at centre and Thiele at goal defence caused multiple turnovers to help Mount Burr score a few goals in a row.

Thiele and Olivia Dean limited opportunities for Wilson to gain possession.

Hayley Vanderhorst worked both outside and inside the circle to gain possession for Nangwarry.

Wilson was the main focal point, but Olivia Dean made it difficult for feeders to penetrate.

Cassie Dinnison and Claire Ferguson worked hard to feed goalies from circle edge but attempts to get closer to the post allowed Mount Burr to take possession and head to the final break with a nine-goal lead.

The Mozzies lifted their intensity in the final quarter with more accurate shooting helping them extend their lead early in the quarter.

The defensive pressure and the drive and strength of Shultz through the centre allowed goalies to gain possession.

Nangwarry goal defender Carly Ploenges created pressure in the circle getting tips on balls, but the deflections landed in Mount Burr’s hands.

Ashlee Dean and Wheeler had to work the ball closer to the post through the patience of Schultz and Easterby.

Despite the efforts of Dinnison and Ferguson to drive the ball forward, Olivia Dean and Thiele continued to force errors and make Wilson work hard to gain possession, limiting scoring opportunities for Nangwarry.

Mount Burr was too strong in the last quarter and ran away with an 18-goal win.

Best players for Mount Burr were Schultz and Ashlee Dean, with Ploenges and Vanderhorst best for Nangwarry.
