Kent takes home Limestone Coast title

THe 2023 Limestone Coast 150 Sporting Clays event was held over the long weekend recently with 69 competitors taking part in the shoot hosted by the Lake Bonney Sporting Clays and the South East Field and Game Association.

Shooters were greeted with overcast conditions for the first day and the fine sunny conditions on the Sunday.

Jeremy Kent, who recently won the English Sporting Nationals, took out the Highgun with a solid score of 137/150.

Chris Wright from the Senior category was a close runner-up overall as he finished just one target behind Kent.

Danny Bellinger and Gavin Dyson ran a close race with both finishing up on 134/150, with Bellinger winning AA Grade on a count-back.

In A Grade, Bill Dyson came in first with a score of 129/50, while Tim Widdison runner-up just one shot behind.

Marc O’Shannessy won B Grade with a score of 108/150.

Ian Eckerman was second with 105 targets.

In C Grade, Kyle Dodman claimed the win with a score of 104/150 to down Ben Hagarty who was runner-up with 101 targets.

Wright’s 136 targets were enough to claim the Senior’s win, while Leigh Dunn was runner-up with an impressive 131/150.

Ernie Scheidl snatched the lead from Neville Kent and finished up first in the Veteran’s competition with a score of 128/150, just one shot ahead of Kent.

Scheidl recently returned from the Oceania Championships in Waikato, New Zealand, along with Robert Brown and Russell Pigdon, as members of the Australian Veteran’s team and were recipients of a silver medal.

John Torresan won the Masters’ Category easily with a score of 131/150, with Wayne Evans in second place.

The Women’s competition was blitzed by Tasha Bellinger who shot 126/150 to claim a dominant win with Bec Kober the runner-up.

Zakary Button won the Junior’s competition with a solid 125 targets, while Nicholas Bologiannis was the runner-up, three targets back.

Jack Dyson won the Sub-Junior category with a personal best of 117/150.

Two members from the South East Branch of South Australian Field and Game Association have

been selected in the Australian National Team to compete at the World Sporting Championships in Hungary in July.

Ernie Scheidl is a member of the Veteran’s team, along with another South Australian in Robin Showier from the Riverland and Russell Pigdon from Victoria.

Tim Widdison is a member of the Senior’s team and will be joined by Chris Ball from South Australia and Michael Birgan from Queensland.

The pair join a growing list of South East members who have represented Australia internationally in previous years.

Jeremy Kent, who is in good form at the moment, will also compete as an individual in Hungary.
