A LATE charge from Hatherleigh was not enough to claim the win in the Mid South East football grand final re-match on Saturday.

Kalangadoo was too strong in the first three terms in the Round 8 clash and set up its victory with a third-quarter burst.

The opening term saw the Magpies pepper the goals, with five goals and four behinds to hold a 13-point advantage at the first break.

The second quarter favoured the Eagles by a few behinds, with just nine points separating the two sides at the main break.

The third quarter belonged to the Magpies, as they came out refreshed after the break and caught the Eagles napping.

They banged on six major scores to Hatherleigh’s four and extended the lead to 25 points.

That made for an exciting final quarter of football, with the Eagles chasing hard to close the deficit.

Despite adding three extra goals than the Magpies, it was not enough to reel in the margin and the Magpies celebrated.

Ben Gregory was in good touch up forward, finishing the game with four major scores for the victors.

Dylan Bromley, Jack Casey and Alex Lyon all kicked three goals.

Liam Hay, Lachy Jones, Bromley, Bradley Auld, Gregory and Sam Mcmanus were named best for the victors.

For Hatherleigh, Jed Telfer, Jase Bateman, Thom Hutchesson, Michael Telford and Jake Wight were best.
