MOUNT BURR 13.14 (92) D KONGORONG 8.11 (59)

A SLOW start threatened to destroy Mount Burr’s hopes in its Mid South East football Round 7 clash with Kongorong on Saturday.

The Mozzies were clearly favourite going in and in the end claimed a comfortable victory, but not without a bit of soul searching after the opening term.

The Hawks peppered the goals and could have been much further ahead at the first break was it not for seven behinds alongside the two goals.

Mount Burr could only manage one shot on goal for the entire quarter, but that soon changed.

While limiting the Hawks to just two goals in the second term, the Mozzies banged on five of their own and took the lead by nine points.

However, Kongorong was not done and came back out in the third kicking to the scoring end and reclaimed the lead, also to the tune of nine points.

That put the pressure back on Mount Burr, but the Mozzies enjoyed the breeze in their favour as the game would down and used it well, with six major scores in the final stanza, while holding the Hawks to just one behind.

Jack Gregory topped the goal scoring with five majors for the victors, while Josh Wallis chipped in with three.

Andrew Ridley and Dylan Ridley also kicked multiples, with two each.

For Kongorong, Jett Attard and Jarrod Ryan kicked two each.

Wil Bowering, Dylan Ridley, Taylor Allen, Andrew Ridley, Jack Muhovics and Wallis were best for the victors.

For Kongorong, Matt Cordy, Luke Mcintyre, Ethan Norman, Fraser Brewster, Corben O’Dea and Will Vickery were named best.
