INCLEMENT weather resulted in a weekend of purely indoor competition for the Blue Lake Archers this week.

The extra practice toward the July indoor championships will not go astray, the extra round also giving the newer archers another opportunity to find their feet in their new sport.

Handicap adjusted scoring is the method used for the local club, each new archer has a defined qualifying period before gaining a handicap rating and two more of the newer members progressed past the point over the weekend.

Allan and Callum Oschar now have a handicap rating that puts them firmly in the mix for event results.

A benchmark score of 300 points for the Australian Indoor 18 metre was left behind by all the winners of total of four rounds competed in over Friday night and Sunday afternoon. Alex McDonnell, Dale Tschirpig, Seth Delaney and Allan Oschar were the winners of the four rounds, all were noted to have benchmark busting scores that will force the handicap system to dial back their individual adjustments for future events.

A couple of tie breaks to settle bragging rights for position back in the remainder of the field were required.

Friday night Paul Freeman and Garry Jacques both finished exactly on their benchmark of 300 points, Freeman gaining the higher position in this case.

Sunday afternoon Ben Kilsby and Nash Radford had equal scores of 295 which went Kilsby’s way.

Indoor archery continues at Blue Lake Gymnastics Club, Malseed Park, Friday at 7pm, followed by outdoor archery at Corriedale Park from 12.30pm Sunday.
