ROBE continued its faultless start to the 2023 Mid South Eastern football season when visiting Glencoe for Round 5 on Saturday.

After a tight first quarter, the Roosters were able to break away and at the end of the day made the return trip home with a 24-point win.

Nothing could separate the two sides in the opening term and at the first break scores were locked on 20-all.

However, the guests lifted in the second and a four-goal effort kept them in front by two straight kicks heading into half time.

Robe extended its lead after the main break with a four-goal third term, while restricting the Murphies to just one major.

Thomas Wachtel was making waves and he finished up with a six-goal haul on his way to a best-on-ground performance.

Henry Lawrie and George Dutton were also prominent, with the pair picking up from last week’s impressive endeavours.

Entering the final stanza with a 33-point buffer, the Roosters looked well placed for their fifth win on the trot.

The hosts outscored their guests in the fourth, but a five-goal return was not enough to change the lead.

Robe added three majors of its own for good measure and at the final siren claimed a four-goal win.

Joel Bryant and Thomas Miller were other multiple goalscorers for the Roosters, with two each, while once again Zac Deane impressed.

His defensive efforts of half-back earned him a place among the best, while Kaden Woodward and Jordan Pettit also found themselves mentioned again.

Glencoe was best served by Dylan Pfitzner, while Alex Hentschke led the scoring with four goals.

Dylan Childs (three), Jason Bates and Tory Weaver (two) also had their piece of the action, but it was not enough on the day.

Other standout Murphies on the day included Thomas Edwards, Zacc Coccs and Henry Smith and while they did not obtain the desired result, they will take confidence from the close margin against the current ladder leaders.
