GLENCOE 57 d KONGORONG 25

GLENCOE was too strong for its Kongorong hosts in Round 4 of Mid South East netball.

The first quarter of the game had both teams go hard at the ball but the Murphies settled early, moving the ball well and converting accurately.

Donna Jaeschke was on from the second the first whistle blew, working hard with the drive and feeding to Chantelle Cocks who was accurate under the post.

The Hawks looked nervous in the first quarter and the Murphies were able to capitalise well giving them a nine-goal lead heading into the first break.

The second quarter saw a rise in defence from both teams.

Glencoe’s Jenna Paproth and Kongorong’s Riley Buckingham battled hard in the circle, both having their moments in the spotlight during the second quarter.

Down the other end Tilah Buckingham stood strong under the post for the home team, but was matched up by the young Chelsea Owen who looked to turn over any inaccurate feeds and loose balls.

The Hawks still struggled to settle into the second term, with the strong Glencoe outfit led by Sarah Edwards down back pushing their lead out by 15 at half time.

Kongorong went into the third quarter with work to do and it lifted the defensive pressure across the court to deny Glencoe any easy ball.

Kate Wright in wing attack worked overtime for the Hawks both on the offensive and defensive while Jaeschke continued to control the game down the Murphies’ attack line.

This quarter also had Edwards out for a hunt at goal defence where she found another gear in the third term.

However, Glencoe struggled slightly to convert as the defence of the Hawks pounced on any loose balls or missed shots.

An even quarter across the court had the Murphies outscore the Hawks by two in the third term and they held a 26-goal lead heading into the last quarter.

Both teams continued to fight hard defensively with Edwards and Owen worked hard in Glencoe’s defence, while Rach Perry and Jaeschke both had a thrilling contest down the court.

Riley Buckingham and Paproth also continued their tight tussle down one end of the court but Glencoe stood up in the wet conditions to claim a 57-25 goal win.

it was Glencoe which could ran away with it in the rain and pick themselves up the win.

Owen and Paproth were best on court for Glencoe, while Riley Buckingham and Wright got the nod for the Hawks.
