PORT MACDONNELL 45 d MOUNT BURR 32

AN even start to the game set the scene for a close contest between Mount Burr and Port MacDonnell.

Goalies made the most of scoring opportunities, with only one shot missed for the quarter from both sides.

As such both teams headed into the break with nine goals to their name.

In the second term Mount Burr youngster Ella Easterby went into goals with Lauren Wheeler to wing attack.

That opened up the attack line with a more direct route to the circle.

Kori Collins was the focal point in the Port MacDonnell goal circle with goal attack Megan Hein and wing attack Shannon Schiedl feeding well.

The change of Liza Mutch to centre for the “Bay” made for a good contest through the centre and created drive onto the circle’s edge.

Alana Berkefeld forced errors for Mozzies attackers and guided Demons goal attack Alysha Coon to limit the opportunities of Mount Burr goal shooter Ebony Clark.

As such Port MacDonnell made the most of its opportunities to take the lead at half time.

Both teams made changes at the main break as the rain came and slowed the pace of the game.

The Mozzies made passing errors attempting to pass long in the wet, while Berkefeld continued to make interceptions for the Demons.

Hein and Schiedl continued to combine well in the attack line, with Hein shooting with accuracy.

Mount Burr had limited opportunities to score with the defensive pressure all over the court making it hard to convert.

Megan Thiele and Olivia Dean managed to take some intercepts, but Port MacDonnell kept a handy lead heading into the final quarter with an 11-goal buffer.

Mount Burr continued to have opportunities at the defensive end but was unable to convert regularly while the wet weather continued to bring passing errors.

Both defences had the upper hand for the game but it was the Demons goalies who were more consistent and as such helped them to the win.

Collins and Hein were Port MacDonnell’s best, with Thiele and Dean the top performers for the Mozzies.
