GLENCOE continued to flex its muscles in Round 2 of Mid South East netball, with a strong victory over Hatherleigh on Saturday.

Both teams took to the court with adjusted line-ups, setting up an intriguing contest.

Jenna Paproth returned to the Glencoe attack line and Hatherleigh filled their defensive holes with youngsters Elly Redden and Rosie Nettle.

The game started at a high intensity and went goal-for-goal early.

Glencoe’s attackers connected with Chantelle Cocks with ease under the post and at the other end the Eagle’s Tegan Telfer worked the ball patiently into their goal circle.

The Murphies defenders worked tirelessly to limit options in Hatherleigh’s attack line to force plenty of turnover ball.

Despite some impressive contests from Hatherleigh’s Lara MacGregor, the Murphies continued to push on and entered the first break with a four-goal lead.

The strong presence of Cocks under the post forced Hatherleigh to bring Millie Smith into goal keeper in an attempt to curb Cocks’ influence.

The change did not deter the Glencoe attack line, as Donna Jaeschke fed the ball with confidence from off circle’s edge.

Nettle and Glencoe’s Alice Tentye had a tight tussle on the wing with neither player allowing any space.

The fast pace of the game caused both teams to make simple errors as the quarter wore on.

Glencoe’s defensive combination of Sarah Edwards and Chelsea Owen continued to cause headaches in the Hatherleigh goal circle.

At the main break the Murphies had extended their lead to seven goals.

Both teams started the second half unchanged.

Telfer continued to lead from the front for Hatherleigh, driving strongly to circles edge and utilising her patience to eventually find Maddie Pulmer and Demi Vanderhorst.

However, inaccuracy from the Eagles shooters allowed Owen and Edwards to snatch up any missed goals.

The Murphies continued to find their avenue to goal despite the Eagle defenders falling back on Cocks.

Hatherleigh entered the final quarter with an adjusted defensive combination.

MacGregor moved back to goal keeper and Redden re-entered the game at goal defence.

The young defenders were unable to have their desired influence over the experience of Cocks and Paproth.

The Eagles attack line dropped in intensity and allowed Glencoe to win the final quarter by five goals, for a 16-goal victory.

Best players for the victors were Edwards and Cocks, while Telfer and Nettle took the honours for the Eagles.
