KALANGADOO hit the court running in Round 1 of Mid South East netball on Saturday, with a dominating 68-26 win over Kongorong.

Much of the early play was driven by the high work rate of goal attack Abbey Duncan.

Kongorong’s Riley Buckingham and Emily Lightbody adjusted to the quick pace of Kalangadoo’s goal circle and worked relentlessly to curb the influence of Duncan.

However, Kalangadoo went into the first break with a 17-5 lead.

Both teams remained unchanged during the second quarter.

Kongorong centre Ebony Lawson worked hard to find space and feed her goalies Tilah Buckingham and Sarah Gardin, who were forced to adjust and re-offer due to the tight defence of Kalangadoo’s defensive circle.

Due to a blood injury to Riley Buckingham early in second quarter, Kongorong brought Jasmin McKinnon on for a short time.

Kalangadoo’s defence stepped up their pressure, causing intercepts and touches in the centre third.

Goal shooter Ebony McDiarmid positioned herself as a focal point in attack and contributed to Kalangadoo going into the main break with a 25-goal advantage.

The third quarter saw both teams maintain a high level of work rate and Riley Buckingham had an impact defensively, using her speed to take some timing intercepts.

The final quarter saw Kalangadoo’s circle defence continue to work hard and make the most of rebounding opportunities.

The Magpies ran the game out hard to claim a strong victory.

Best players for Kalangadoo were Duncan and Lauren Kain, while for Kongorong, Lawson and Lightbody were given the honours.
