Plenty happening at Robe Bowls Club

After a cool, drizzly morning last Thursday the sun came out and so did the social bowlers.

A field of 26 took to the greens, which included three visitors.

On the day three-bowl pairs and two-bowl triples were played, with two games of 12 ends, which produced four two-game winners.

Steve Farrell and Josh Waddell claimed the win and the vouchers with a score of 55 points and 20 shots.

Runners-up were Jim Gray and visitor John who had 55+11, followed by Dean Burgoyne and Vic Dawson on 54 points and Helen Lynch with visitor Irene who scored 53.

The Cos Fours were cancelled on Saturday, so a Robe v Mortlake “state of origin” clash was held.

The event saw two games of 10 ends and one game of eight ends of three-bowl pairs played with the jack being placed by the winning skipper.

The winners on 80 points were Ken Smith and Jo Sykes and runner-up on 79 was Farrell and Robbie Dahler, while George and Darren from Mortlake finished third on 55.

Robe’s solid results had it win the team event went with a total of 279 points, with Mortlake on 168.

The men’s triples were held on Sunday and attracted 12 teams.

At the end of the event the rink of Robe’s David Robinson, Mark Giles and Peter Roachock emerged victorious on 82 points.

Mortlake’s John Tanner, Clive Baxter and George Draffen finished a close second on 81, while Mount Gambier RSL’s Graeme Crowder and Graham Smith teamed up with Robe’s Steve Farrell for third place on 63.

Kingston’s Daryl Morley, Billie Scott and Jack Vawser rounded out the placings in fourth with 61.5 points.

Closing Day of the summer season and the Robe Bowling Club AGM will be held Sunday April 30.
