ACTION returned to SEAC Park on Sunday with a combined Khanacross for Round 2 of the local series and Round 1 of the state series.

Dale Cagney was presented with the State Khanacross trophy after he won the 2022 series, which was held at SEAC Park, Mid Murray Motorplex and Walky Park.

The entry list for 2023 included past champions Michael and Bradley Clements, who have held the title for several years between them.

After the drivers’ briefing, Bruce Hamilton led the pack into competition and was given the number one position for the day.

On the first test layout Bradley Clements set the pace in the Subaru WRX with his father Michael close behind.

Sam Humphries was third-fastest with Cagney a further two seconds back in fourth.

Steven Leo impressed in his first run in his Honda Civic but made contact with a track marker and received a five-second penalty which relegated him to fifth, ahead of Jason Sims, Bradley Harry, Dillan Young, Matthew Kirby and Bruce Hamilton in 10th.

The back half of the top 10 was fiercely contested with five positions separated by just two tenths of a second.

The second run of the first layout saw the top three remain the same, with Bradley Clements leading Michael Clements and Humphries.

Leo avoided the track markers on the second run to claim fourth place ahead of Cagney, who rounded out the top five.

Sims was sixth-fastest, ahead of Harry, Young, Wayne Casey and the 10th-placed Ollie Pohlner.

The next run had drivers take on the same layout but in reverse and Bradley Clements was yet again at the top of the charts with the fastest time.

Cagney was a distant runner-up, four seconds behind Clements.

Humphries’ consistency continued on the reverse layout as he was third-fastest, ahead of Leo, Michael Clements who finished in fifth after he hit a track marker.

The second attempt at the reverse layout saw normal services resume as Bradley Clements took home first place with Michael Clements second-fastest.

They were followed by Leo, who claimed the last podium place, ahead of Cagney, Humphries, Damien Wilson, Sims, Matthew Kirby, Young and Kyle Johnson.

After a lunch break, the next track layout on offer was a combination of a couple of long runs the grass with some technical combination turns at each end.

Bradley Clements led Michael Clements on the first run again with Cagney finishing third in his Civic.

Leo claimed fourth place ahead of Damien Wilson, Geoff Wilson, Kirby, Bruno Vadori, Young and Humphries who rounded out the top 10.

Michael Clements finally had his name in the spotlight as he claimed the win on the second run of the layout.

Humphries was runner-up, ahead of Bradley Clements, Cagney, Leo, Damien Wilson, Young, Sims, Geoff Wilson and Wayne Casey.

The final track change for the day had drivers take on the same circuit but in a reverse direction.

Bradley Clements returned to the top of the timesheets with an impressive run with Humphries and Leo rounding out the podium places.

They were followed by Michael Clements, Cagney, Casey, Young, Justin Devlin, Bruce Hamilton and Geoff Wilson.

On the second run of the reverse layout, Bradley Clements led Michael Clements and Cagney with Leo a close fourth.

Humphries took home fifth place, ahead of Damien Wilson, Sims, Vadori, Casey and Hamilton who rounded out the top 10 in the final run of the day.

The next Khanacross round will be held on May 28 with a Motorkhana to take place on April 16.
