DIVISION 3 – WEST GAMBIER 9/70 d MOUNT GAMBIER 3/42

DESPITE some close match-ups along the way, West Gambier managed a convincing 9-3 victory over Mount Gambier in the Division 3 tennis grand final.

Throughout the day there were three tiebreakers contested, with all of those matches involving West’s Justin Robinson and Gambier’s Andrew Le Cornu.

Their singles match was a thriller, with Robinson edging out his rival 7-6.

They faced the same challenges in their other outings, with a win each in their doubles encounters.

Robinson teamed up with Toby Stutley for a win against the Le Cornu duo of Andrew and William, while Andrew’s partnership with Tim Benny produced the win over Justin and Peyton Robinson.

Those matches aside, William Le Cornu had a solid 7-5 win over Stutley, while the top women’s doubles had Kirra McKenny and Layla McPherson account for Rylee Seidel and Lucy Clarke 6-4.

The remaining sets were all won relatively convincingly.

William Le Cornu and Benny won their doubles 6-3 against Stutley and Peyton Robinson, while the rest of the matches went West’s way.

The women’s singles were all 6-1 results, as McKenny, McPherson and Rylee Kuchel accounted for Seidel, Clarke and Haylie Gregor respectively.

Peyton Robinson won his singles 6-2 over Benny, while Kuchel’s doubles partnerships had her win 6-0 with McKenny and 6-1 with McPherson.
