DIVISION 2 – GLENCOE 8/59 d MOUNT GAMBIER 4/44

THE Division 2 Mount Gambier and District Tennis Association season honours went to Glencoe on Saturday after a solid performance against a tough Mount Gambier side.

Despite sitting top of the ladder heading into its finals campaign, Gambier could not match it with its rival on the day and Glencoe won eight sets to four.

The Glencoe men were out in full force and they did not drop a set all day.

The top men’s clash was won 6-1 by David Ferguson over Will Cameron, while Sam Auld and David Cole both won 6-2 against Ben Kerin and Lachlan Patzel respectively.

The doubles had similar results.

Ferguson and Tim Biggins fought out a 6-4 win over Cameron and Kerin, with the other sets more one-sided affairs.

Ferguson’s partnership with Cole produced a 6-1 victory against Will and Michael Cameron, while Biggins and Auld defeated Berin and Michael Cameron 6-2.

Gambier provided more of a challenge in the women’s sets, winning four of the six matches.

Glencoe’s Chloe Watson was too strong in the top singles where she defeated Taryn Gartner 6-4, but the second and third rubbers produced convincing wins for Gambier.

Renee Cameron accounted for Ruth Thami 6-1, while Jodie Carey secured the same result over Abbie Cocks.

Cameron also won both of her doubles sets.

A 6-3 win alongside Jayel van den Hurk came against Eliza Cole and Cocks, while a hard-fought clash with Watson and Thami resulted in a tiebreak win to Cameron and Gartner.

Watson and Cole chipped one back with a 6-3 win in their battle against Gartner and van den Hurk.

At its conclusion Glencoe emerged clear winners, claiming the shield for 2022-23.
