PLEASANT conditions greeted 24 starters for the second round of the Blue Lake Golf Club’s Metro Bakery and Cafe Silver Salver last week.

With the course in prime condition, the par competition saw a few handicaps broken.

The score of the day came from Division 2’s Jaynee Oberer who has slowly lowered her handicap and +4 will certainly attract the handicapper’s attention.

The par competition is usually met with trepidation, but Division 1’s Sue Agars and Carol Megaw both signed for +1 to force a count-back, the former having the better inward score.

Agars approached the 10th hole at -1 and was able to add pars on the 14th to 17th.

Megaw was in control on the outward nine, turning with +4 and no wipes and would have had a win in her sights, but it was not to be, with one plus, four halved and four minuses undoing all her good work.

Captain Geraldine Scott rounded out the podium after a three-way tie with Rosemary Martland and Annette Ford all signing for -1.

Scott had some work to do after -3 on the inward nine and she was equal to the task, with four plusses which included a birdie on the 15th hole on the inward nine.

Jaynee Oberer was top of the Division 2 podium with her +4.

She was +2 on the turn to the inward nine and added another three plusses along with five halved holes and only one wipe to finish well.

Another three-way tie presented between Vivienne Wilson, Lyn Annand and Lynda Nannings all finishing square.

Wilson was -2 on the outward nine but was able to reel the score in with +2 on the inward nine.

Annand was -1 on the outward nine and added three plusses, four halved and two wipes on the inward nine to bump Nannings to fourth.

Nearest the pin second-shot winner’s were Division 1’s Ford and Division 2’s Lesley McPherson.

The pro-shot went to Johanna Gogan with a birdie on the fifth hole.

Chocolate bar voucher winner’s were Gogan on the fifth hole, Scott and Nannings for birdies and chip-in ferrets to Ford on the third, Bev Pascoe the seventh and Nannings the 15th.

The annual captain’s event was well supported on Saturday, with 20 women looking to add their name to the trophy.

The honours went to Lee-Anne Medhurst with an impressive nett 66 (91/25).

Her card showed pars on the second, fifth, 14th and 15th holes and consistency on both nines (46/45).

Gogan’s nett 69 (104/35) forced a count-back after Lyn Gill had nett 69 (114/45) and Oberer nett 69 (102/33).

The only blemish Gill would be disappointed with were the three blowout scores on her card, but she was still able to hold off Oberer in the count-back.

Nearest to the pin on the fifth hole went to Scott, second-shot nearest the pin on the 15th to Kate Hommelhoff and the longest drives on the sixth and 17th holes to Martland.
