Blue Lake club hosts BMX state round

FOLLOWING Saturday’s SA Country Championships, the Blue Lake BMX Club backed up its busy weekend when hosting Round 2 of the SA State Series on Sunday.

A contingent of 27 local club riders registered for the round which boasted a solid field of 255 entries, with several podium finishes across the range of categories.

Of those, four riders finished at the top of their class.

Jaiden Picken finished first in the 15 Boys, while sister Sherridan Picken claimed the 13 Girls win.

Trae Wilke backed up his Country Championships win with a first place in the 17-24 Men, while Kain Jelleff finished fourth and Mitchell Vorwerk came home in seventh for the class.

Kynan Davey led Josh Cram home in the 35-39 Men for a Blue Lake one-two, with Tom Castelman pushed back to fifth following a win in Saturday’s event.

After a first place in the Country Championships, Jaiden Picken had to settle for second in the Junior Superclass Men, while another second place finish came from Peter Jelleff racing in the 45-49 Men.

Another notable performance came from April Jones who secured third place in the 8 Girls final.

Outside of the podium finishers there were several riders who made the final, with Mollie Cook fifth in the 17-24 Women, Mikayla Leo fourth in the 11 Girls and Archie Murdoch fifth in the 11 Boys.

Blue Lake riders will now look to Round 5 of the club’s summer series this Friday, while Round 3 of the SA State Series will be held at Tea Tree Gully on Sunday, April 2.
