Sims takes out victory

A TWILIGHT Motorkhana at the Glenburnie Saleyards complex on Saturday started the Motorkhana series for 2023 for the South Eastern Automobile Club.

Jason Sims started strongly and set the pace on the in both attempts on the first course, while Geoff Wilson and Josh Munn also impressed early on.

Newcomer Simon Poynter found the limits in his Falcon on his first ever Motorkhana and put in a solid run to claim fourth on his first run and sixth on the second.

Glen Shephard was another first time driver and found his feet early as he was fifth-fastest on the first run and third on the second.

Danny Farrell put his Commodore through the paces in his debut to take sixth and fourth pace.

Jason Sims was the pace-setter for the second layout and was fastest on both runs.

Munn was runner-up on the first run, while Geoff Wilson was second on the next run after he claimed third place on the first attempt.

On the second run, Farrell made it to third, ahead of Munn, Poynter, Harrison Bliss, Glen Shephard, Henry Sims and Charlie Shephard in ninth.

Jason Sims continued his impressive form into the third layout and was three seconds clear of his competitors.

Munn was runner-up again, while Glen Shephard, Farrell and Henry Sims rounded out the top five on the first attempt.

The second attempt saw Farrell claim second spot behind perennial winner Jason Sims, with Geoff Wilson rounding out the podium.

On the fourth track layout, there was a new competitor who took the ascendancy as Geoff Wilson was fastest on both runs.

Munn was runner-up on the first run, seven seconds behind Wilson.

Poynter rounded out the podium a further seven seconds back ahead of Farrell, Jason Sims, Glen Shephard, Harrison Bliss, Henry Sims and Charlie Shephard.

Jason Sims returned to form on the second run bt had to settle for the runner-up spot to Wilson.

Munn also improved but was only fast enough to take home third place with Poynter a close third.

Glen Shephard put in an impressive run to take home fifth spot ahead of Farrell, Bliss, Henry Sims and Charlie Shephard in ninth.

Jason Sims returned to the top of the charts on the arrow head course with fastest times in both runs.

He was followed by Glen Shephard who was runner-up on the first run and Wilson, who claimed third place.

Wilson went one better on the second run of the layout and was runner-up, ahead of Glen Shephard and Poynter.

Munn took home fifth place alongside Farrell, while Henry Sims was seventh fastest, ahead of Charlie Shephard and Bliss.

Jason Sims’ dominance continued into the final course before the tea break as he was quickest on both attempts, with Glen Shephard runner-up and Henry Sims third on both occasions.

After the tea break and some much-needed food for the drives, a square slalom course was set up for the next challenge.

Jason Sims and Munn were the two fastest on both runs with the former the fastest on both occasions.

Diamon slalom was the next challenge and Glen Shephard set the fastest time on the first run, ahead of Poynter, Wilson, Munn, Bliss, Henry Sims, Jason Sims, Farrell and Charlie Shephard.

On the second attempt, Jason Sims made his resurgence back to the top of the times ahead of Glen Shephard.

Farrell rounded out the podium, with Poynter in fourth and Wilson in fifth.

The next layout saw Jason Sims fastest, ahead of Wilson and Farrell on both runs.

This was then followed by the waltz cover course which saw Jason Sims claim the fastest time on the first attempt by seven seconds.

Wilson was runner-up, ahead of Glen Shephard, Poynter and Henry Sims.

Drivers then took on a quick test layout where Jason Sims set the pace from Wilson and Glen Shephard on both runs before drivers readied for the final course of the event.

The last circuit saw Jason Sims claim the fastest time on both occasions.

Wilson put up a solid fight on the first attempt to claim second place, ahead of Farrell, Glen Shephard, Bliss, Henry Sims, Munn, Poynter and Charlie Shephard.

On the second attempt and final run for the evening, Glen Shephard was the closest to Jason Sims and claimed second place.

The next event will be at SEAC Park on March 25.
