THERE were 28 women who took part in a stableford round at the Mount Gambier Golf Club on Wednesday.

The event was sponsored by Lorraine Stratford and it was Penne Saffin who claimed the victory in Division 1 with a score of 38 points.

She was closely followed by Jess Parsons, who was runner-up with 37 points.

In Division 2, Linda Boylan took home the winner with 36 points, ahead of Helen Heaver, who finished just one shot back.

Heather Barry, Jeannette Braun and Carol Davis all put in strong performances but were unable to crack into the top two of their divisions.

Jan Shanahan was the winner for the nearest-to-pin for the eighth hole, while the long drives were taken out by Leanne Hunt, Parsons and Heaver.

A four-person ambrose competition will be held on Wednesday for the opening of the season with visitors welcome to join with the start at 9.30am.

On Saturday, it was a smaller field of women who took to the course as many had been to the Southern Ports Golf Week in Robe.

Parsons continued on her impressive form from last Wednesday as she finished with a score of 38 points to claim the win.

Trudy Johnson was runner-up with 34 points, while Saffin backed up her strong performance earlier in the week to score 33 points and take home the final place on the podium.
