The Lower South East Bowls Association Championship Fours were played at Kingston on Sunday, with the Robe women’s team of Robbie Dahler, Carolyn McCusker, Helen Dawson and Judy Bermingham securing the annual honours.

They took out the 2022-23 honours with a solid campaign, which started with a win over Mount Gambier RSL.

A semi-final win over Naracoorte RSL booked a place in the decider, which was followed by a grand final victory over Naracoorte.

All games were close encounters, which kept spectators entertained throughout.

For the men Robe was defeated by Mount Gambier, who were then defeated by champions Port MacDonnell in the final.

Attention will now turn to the Association Championship Triples this Sunday.

Robe will also hold its club men’s fours tournament today.

PENNANTS

The Friday Pennant finals were cancelled last week due to the hot weather.

Games will no be played this Friday at the same venues.

Robe’s Division 2 side will play Naracoorte at Naracoorte, while Division 3 plays Naracoorte at Mount Gambier RSL.

Saturday’s Open Pennant had Robe travel to Port MacDonnell in Division 1.

After a tight game, Robe came out on top, 71/10 to 69/2.

Josh Waddell, David Robinson, Peter Gregory and Glenn Wright defeated Tim Wrightson’s team 23-21, while Pat Lynch, Dean Burgoyne, Peter Roachock and Harold Manton accounted for Chris Richards’ rink 26-24.

Errol Jennings, Dean Woodward, Steve Farrell and Stephen Kennett were defeated by Adam Wilson’s side 22-24 in another close battle.

Despite the good win, it was not quite enough to sneak into the top four and Robe finished the Division 1 season in fifth.

Robe’s Division 2 side also hit the road to play Naracoorte in the last game of the home-and-away season.

A big win on won rink proved the difference in the solid victory, with Robe winning 86/9 to 66/3.

Rob Lawrie, Peter deLaine, Ali Douglas and Adrian Bermingham had a big 34-13 shot result over Wayne Tanner’s rink to secure the overall honours.

Meanwhile, Gordon Brown, Ross Dening, Jo Sykes and Ken Smith had a draw with David Parker’s team 22-all and Paul Truelove, Barry Bennett, Mark Murphy and Deane Nankivell lost to Greg Prior’s four in a close encounter, 30-31.

Division 2 finished fourth for the minor rounds and will now gear up for finals.

SOCIAL

THE Super Series did not go well for Robe last week, when it was defeated by Tankers at Mount Gambier RSL on Monday night and Bay Breakers at Mount Gambier on Thursday night.

Meanwhile, on home greens the social bowls competition saw two games of two-bowl triples played.

There was only one two-game winner, with Ross Dening, Josh Waddell and Doug Baker finishing on 57 points.

In other news, Pat Lynch has been giving lessons to new bowlers on Wednesdays from 4-5pm.

All new bowlers are welcome, with more information available from Valma Jennings on 0419842396.
