WEST Gambier will look to claim the first outright victory of the Barber Shield this season in Day 2 of its clash against Mil Lel on Saturday.

The hosts went into stumps at 8/199 and hold a mammoth lead of 166 runs.

This came off the back of an unforgettable hour with the ball where West Gambier bowled Mil Lel out for just 33 runs before taking to the crease itself.

With a 166-run lead already, there is every chance the Roos could declare before the start of play.

However, with just two wickets in hand, West Gambier could look to score some quick-fire runs before they go into bowl again.

With 80 overs to play, there are three scenarios which could play out, with two granting an outright win for the hosts.

The first would see the Roos claim an outright win if they bowl Mil Lel out for less than whatever lead they set the visitors.

This would mean the Roos would not have to bat again as the victory would be already confirmed.

If Mil Lel is bowled out after it surpasses West Gambier’s total, there is still chance for the Roos to claim victory as they can go back in to bat and chase down whatever target is set by the away side.

If Mil Lel makes it through to stumps without being bowled out or the Roos fail to reach the target in time, then West Gambier will have to settle for just an innings-victory.

For West, the spotlight will be on Bray Stephenson, Sam Willis and Trent Badman as they look to bowl the visitors out for a second time.

The trio combined for nine wickets on Day 1, with Willis the pick of the bowlers with 4/6 off five overs.

Mil Lel will look to Nick Walters, Logan Gibbs and Jack Miller to prevent the home side from claiming an outright win.

Walters was the best of Mil Lel’s batters last week and scored 18 runs off 64 balls.

However, with momentum strongly in the home side’s favour, West Gambier sits firmly in the box seat to claim the outright win.
