ARCHERY South Australian held its annual presentation dinner last Friday night with two prestigious trophies finding their way back to Mount Gambier.

Held at Stirling in the Adelaide Hills, the event recognised archers for results in the 2022 state championship series spanning outdoor and indoor target, field and clout events.

Several Blue Lake Archers members again followed the championship trail with strong results.

Of that contingent, BLA president Ian Harris and Tamika Mullan received recognition for the achievements.

Harris attended the dinner and was the recipient of the best all round over 70 male compound archer trophy.

He is a true veteran of the sport having started as a teenager in the earlier archery club in Mount Gambier.

The best all round female compound trophy was awarded to Mullan – a remarkable achievement in her first year playing the sport.

Harris brought the trophies back to Mount Gambier and presented Mullan with her trophy and medal prior to Sunday’s local event.

Harris and Mullan now join a prestigious list of names engraved on the trophies, which will be returned to Archery SA to be presented again after the 2023 championships.

On the local front, Blue Lake archery is ramping up with new members graduating from coaching and joining the club.

There has been two new archers sign up and they will soon appear in the competition results.

It was some newer competitors who dominated the score sheets for the weekend’s events as Fiona Allison and Matt Delaney shared the spoils for the indoor and outdoor rounds.

Indoor archery was the ubiquitous twin round of Australian 18 metre, with Delaney picking off the first round to lead Allison home by seven points.

The finishing order was reversed in the second round when Allison broke the barrier for 200 points off-the-bow for a new personal best, while Delaney was runner-up with another margin of seven.

On Sunday afternoon a pair of three-distance rounds were run, a short Canberra over 50, 40 and 30 metres and a Junior Canberra over 40, 30 and 20 metres.

When the results were tallied it was clear Allison and Delaney had successfully defended their handicap advantage to make it a clean sweep.

Allison claimed the win by 32 points from Delaney.

Upcoming events: Indoor archery at Blue Lake Gymnastics Club, 7pm, Friday; Outdoor archery at Corriedale Park, 12.30pm, Sunday.
